Health education

Poverty, malnutrition and poor sanitation are major challenges for many Indians and contribute to child mortality and poor health outcomes. More than 40% of India's children are malnourished or stunted and over 70% are anaemic.

Teaching children about health at a young age is important so they can develop life-long healthy habits.

IRHS has adopted a preventative health strategy through teaching children health education. IRHS has a dedicated health counsellor who travels to local schools to teach a curriculum tailored to the needs of rural children. Some of the topics included are:

  • Nutrition
  • Hygiene
  • Sanitation
  • Communicable diseases such as the common cold
  • Fevers
  • Mental health
